Middle Village local wins Emmy for work on 'Saturday Night Live' - QNS
"We went up on stage and I was standing there looking out at Will Farrell and Bill Burr sitting in the front row, it was crazy,"
"I'm old enough now to know that that statue and $3 will get you on the subway. I'm proud of it, but it's the job I genuinely love."
"[While preparing] for a Christmas song he asked for a lyric, and I was the only one onstage, so I told him... and it was wrong,"
"After he sang it he turned around, gave me a shrug, and just laughed."
Geoff Countryman, a Middle Village resident and musician, contributed to the sound mixing and production of the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special, which won an Emmy for outstanding sound mixing. Countryman performed with the SNL band and worked behind the scenes preparing musicians and live elements. He drew early inspiration from Star Wars sound design techniques and applied creative sound tricks to his work. Countryman studied jazz performance at NYU under Lenny Pickett and began as an SNL intern before continuing as a performer and production contributor. He values the work more than the awards and enjoys the live experience.
