Lukas Gage opens up about White Lotus rimming scene and 'fever dream' marriage
"I didn't think in the moment, coming up with that scene, it was going to get that attention online,"
"Well, not that different. We were going to have sex. It was [still] going to be titillating but I was like, 'let's go a bit more shocking'."
"It feels a bit like a fever dream. It doesn't mean there wasn't love at some point, and there wasn't some excitement."
"I don't totally recognise that person when I look back but I don't recognise who I am every day. I have to acknowledge and accept all these versions of myself. At that time, it felt like it made sense."
Lukas Gage appeared on the Zach Sang Show to promote his memoir, I Wrote This for Attention. He said he did not expect the rimmed scene in HBO's The White Lotus to receive viral attention and explained that the original plan involved sex but he pushed to make the moment more shocking. He confirmed a brief relationship and whirlwind marriage to hairstylist Chris Appleton in 2023, with engagement in April and a wedding 19 days later, followed by a divorce finalised in June 2024 after Appleton filed citing irreconcilable differences. Gage described the marriage as feeling like a fever dream, reflected on changing versions of himself, and reported including an account of contracting a sexually transmitted disease from swimming in the ocean in his book.
