"I come from a research background so there's always a lot of research involved, whether it's photographs or books. Love Story was based on Elizabeth Beller's book Once Upon a Time, which was helpful, but in a lot of ways Black Rabbit was more "real" than Love Story. There's a grittiness to Black Rabbit that's more true to current day New York than what we did with Love Story, which is more stylized."
Love Story, an FX television series created by Connor Hines, chronicles the romance between JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette from their 1992 meeting through their 1999 death. Shot entirely in New York State, the series captures the distinctive atmosphere of 1990s Manhattan, featuring iconic venues like Indochine and The Roxy, alongside the era's signature fashion and lifestyle. Production designer Alex DiGerlando approached the design through extensive research using photographs and books, including Elizabeth Beller's bestselling biography Once Upon a Time. Unlike fictional projects, the production required balancing historical accuracy with stylized aesthetics to authentically represent the period's glamour and cultural significance.
