KGO forecaster off the air after open-heart surgery
"My strength, energy, and appetite are improving slowly but surely; and the next 2 to 3 weeks are expected to bring more rapid gains."
"I want to express my profound gratitude to family members, friends, and colleagues whose outpouring of support has been uplifting and overwhelming--in a positive way! I have never felt more loved, or more blessed than you have made me feel with your heartwarming expressions of love, concern, and well wishes."
Spencer Christian, a 78-year-old weather forecaster at KGO-TV since 1999, underwent open-heart surgery on February 9, during which surgeons installed a pacemaker and repaired two heart valves. He was discharged after six days and began recovery at home with light exercises. Christian reported gradual improvements in strength, energy, and appetite, with expectations for more rapid progress over the following 2-3 weeks. He planned to return to work in April, barring complications. Christian expressed gratitude for the support from family, friends, and colleagues during his recovery.
