The suspension elicited mixed reactions: some praised the move while large protests occurred outside the show's studio, Disney Studios in Burbank, and Disneyland in Anaheim, and many subscribers announced boycotts of ABC, Disney+, and Hulu. Over 400 actors, musicians, and directors signed an open letter with the ACLU asserting a First Amendment concern. Several days of meetings and negotiations with Disney executives preceded the decision to return the show. Stephen Colbert publicly celebrated the reinstatement on his late-night program.
