"The new DWTS champion produced an incredibly moving performance along with her professional partner Leonardo Lini, to the tune of Alex Warren's Ordinary. During the dance, the sound was altered to demonstrate how music is heard by somebody with a hearing impairment. This was to raise awareness and help to promote a better understanding of the hearing disability that the celebrity dancer has opened up about on the show."
"On the night of the grand final, each couple took to the floor twice, with the first dance being 'judges choice' - one from the archives of this season, chosen by judges Brian Redmond, Arthur Gourounlian, Oti Mabuse and Karen Byrne. The second performance which is always the most anticipated of the entire series, has come to be known as the 'showdance'- an opportunity for the contestants to demonstrate the skills acquired during their time on the show."
"My plan hasn't changed - I'm still going back to my apprenticeship in September. I still want a degree under my belt, and I still want a future for myself."
Katelyn Cummins, a 21-year-old apprentice electrician from Laois, won the Dancing with the Stars championship after consistently performing at the top of the scoreboard throughout the three-month competition. In the grand final, four finalists competed twice: first with a judges' choice dance from the season's archives, then with a showdance showcasing their acquired skills. For the first time in the series, public voting alone determined the winner. Cummins and her professional partner Leonardo Lini performed a moving rendition of Alex Warren's 'Ordinary,' with altered sound to raise awareness about hearing impairment, reflecting Cummins' personal experience. Despite her victory and upcoming Rose of Tralee commitments, Cummins remains committed to returning to her apprenticeship in September and pursuing her degree.
