Starting in Season 2 (2023), Pelia, a centuries-old Lanthanite played by Carol Kane, joined the Strange New Worlds ensemble. The character moved from perceived stunt casting to an integral presence that shapes the series' tone. Pelia currently holds the role of Chief Engineer aboard the Starship Enterprise while preparing Scotty (Martin Quinn) to take over engineering duties. Strange New Worlds will continue with a completed Season 4 and a likely six-episode Season 5 in 2027. Pelia's long-lived biology allows potential appearances elsewhere in Star Trek. Carol Kane said she was not disappointed about avoiding heavy prosthetics.
