Haley Lu Richardson on Her 'Ponies' Breakout, Battling Emilia Clarke, and New Sundance Movie
"I have never felt so much like I was in the right place at the right time, doing exactly what I was supposed to do more,"
"The second I read this character, I knew this was going to be important and meaningful,"
"I couldn't have played Twila six months earlier. It was an exact lineup with things I was going through, ready to face and heal and express within myself."
Ponies premiered January 15 on Peacock. Set in the late 1970s, the series follows two widows who learn their husbands were CIA spies and become unlikely replacement agents amid escalating Cold War tensions. Haley Lu Richardson portrays Twila, a working-class widow shaped by a rough childhood in Indiana trailer parks and a contentious marriage whose husband Tom is murdered by Russian rivals. Twila processes grief differently than her counterpart Bea and pursues truth while carving a new life behind the Iron Curtain. Richardson shifted from teen roles into a grown, complex character aligned with her own personal growth and healing.
