"abysmal."
"I would've put it back up, but then I would've looked like an idiot,"
"And 80 percent of it was praise, but that's not what people focused on."
"It got to a point where I was told by HBO that I should submit my notes to them and they would give Ryan our combined notes."
George R.R. Martin called his working relationship with Ryan Condal abysmal after sharp disagreements over House of the Dragon's creative direction. Martin posted and then deleted a blog that criticized Condal, revealed future plot points, and prompted a response from an upset HBO executive. HBO briefly benched Martin from the series before bringing him back after a reset of the process. An HBO insider described broken communication and the need for a reset. Martin asserts that Condal stopped listening and that HBO instructed him to submit notes through executives rather than collaborate directly.
