"English Teacher isn't coming back for another semester. FX has decided not to order a third season of creator and star Brian Jordan Alvarez's show, Deadline reported on November 12. FX has yet to share the reason behind the cancellation, which comes less than two months after the premiere of the comedy's ten-episode second season. English Teacher follows Evan Marquez (Alvarez), a gay high-school teacher who "often finds himself at the intersection of the personal, professional, and political aspects" of teaching woke teens in Austin, Texas."
"Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton, and Carmen Christopher starred as his co-workers, while the cast of students included Romy Mars, Ivy Wolk, Aliyah's Interlude, and more. English Teacher's first season, which premiered last September,was nominated at the Critics' Choice Television Awards and Film Independent Spirit Awards. It also scooped up a WGA Award nomination for the episode "Linda." The show later faced scrutiny over sexual-assault allegations leveled against Alvarez by his former colleague, Jon Ebeling, in a December 2024 New York Magazine report."
"Through a lawyer, Alvarez denied the allegations and claimed that his interactions with Ebeling were consensual. "We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show's launch," FX said in a statement at the time. "Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time." English Teacher was renewed for its second season in February."
