"For all its faults, I'm so in love with London": Olivia Cooke on filming The Girlfriend in the capital, and why London will always have her heart
"Jesus Christ, you can just smell the wealth when you walk around,"
"Every house is just so manicured and beautiful. It doesn't feel quite real,"
"I think she's a brilliant actress and just has such an intense, powerful presence. I also really wanted to be directed by her - I think the direction that she gave in Ozark and House of Cards was brilliant, so it was just a bit of a no-brainer."
"I mean, it's just how the other half live, isn't it? We spent six weeks there, so you start to fantasise about things like, what you would do with the bedrooms? How many times a week you would use the pool? Would you have a sauna every day?"
The Girlfriend follows Laura, an immensely successful art gallerist whose flawless career, home, and family begin to unravel when her son brings home Cherry, played by Olivia Cooke. Robin Wright stars as Laura and directs the series. Filming took place in London’s most affluent neighbourhoods, including a six-week shoot in a St. John's Wood townhouse near Abbey Road. The production emphasises immaculate, manicured homes to sell the world Laura inhabits. Olivia Cooke sought the role after reading early scripts and wanted to work under Robin Wright’s intense, powerful direction.
