He was best known for portraying Dr Mark Sloan ("McSteamy") on Grey's Anatomy, appearing as a series regular from seasons three to nine and returning for a guest spot in season 17. He later played Cal Jacobs in Euphoria. Creator Sam Levinson expressed heartbreak and offered prayers for Dane's family.
