Eric Dane died at 53 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis less than a year after announcing his diagnosis. He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two daughters, Billie and Georgia, and the family requested privacy. Dane became a passionate advocate for ALS awareness and research and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of fan support. He rose to fame as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy from 2006 to 2012 and reprised the role in 2021. He portrayed Cal Jacobs on HBO's Euphoria beginning in 2019 and starred as Tom Chandler on TNT's The Last Ship. Production on a project halted in 2017 as he battled depression. ALS gradually destroys the nerve cells and connections needed to walk, talk, speak and breathe.
