Dick Van Dyke wrongly announced as dead by Pussycat Dolls icon
"Dawson's Creek's Dick Van Dyke has passed away,"
"Not Dick Van Dyke - come on. If you're going to do a sensitive moment, if you're going to do an obituary, you can't just say Dick Van Dyke."
"There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend,"
Ashley Roberts mistakenly announced that Dick Van Dyke had died while presenting Heart Radio's Breakfast Show, then corrected herself and apologised. The intended report concerned James Van Der Beek, who died on 11 February at age 48 after a two-and-a-half-year battle with colorectal cancer. Dick Van Dyke remains alive and celebrated his 100th birthday in December. Van Der Beek's family said he had "passed peacefully" and requested privacy while grieving. A GoFundMe set up after his death has raised over $1.3 million to support his wife Kimberly and their six children. Van Der Beek was noted for his public LGBTQ+ allyship and support of same-sex marriage prior to the 2015 Obergefell decision.
