"The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding."
Season five of Stranger Things will release in two parts: the first on 27 November and the second on Boxing Day, with the final episode out on New Year's Day and screened in select cinemas. The opening episode, The Crawl, revisits 1983 after Will Byers's disappearance and shows Will singing while trapped in the Upside Down before a demogorgon drags him to Vecna, who shoots a vine down his throat. The synopsis sets the fall of 1987 as the setting, with Hawkins scarred by the Rifts, the town under military quarantine, Eleven hiding, and the cast uniting to find and kill Vecna in a climactic, emotionally charged final battle.
