Microsoft to retire default outbound access for VMs in Azure
Briefly

In September, Microsoft plans to retire the default outbound internet access for Azure virtual machines, prompting developers to gain a better understanding of networking. Previously, the default model allowed easy deployment without requiring network knowledge, but this posed significant security risks by limiting visibility and control for security teams. The change means developers will need to actively manage networking aspects, particularly when scaling applications. As noted by Aviatrix CPO Chris McHenry, existing deployments will continue functioning as before, but new deployments will necessitate a more thoughtful approach to networking.
"In September of this year, that will change."
"Microsoft is doing the right thing; anything that is existing and already deployed, if it doesn't change, it will continue to work as it does right now."
