"We announced, 'hey, we're moving away from Horizon Worlds in VR,' and the headline is that Horizon is dead. It's not. And likewise, VR is not dead. We're continuing to invest tremendously."

Meta has reversed its earlier decision to shut down Horizon Worlds VR after June 15, now committing to maintain the platform for existing games and users indefinitely. CTO Andrew Bosworth clarified that while the company is pivoting metaverse experiences toward mobile, VR support will continue for current users. Bosworth emphasized that reports of Horizon's death are exaggerated and that Meta remains committed to VR investment, including development of next-generation headsets. He noted the metaverse concept encompasses more than just VR, including AR and mobile experiences. Despite these commitments, Meta has significantly reduced metaverse resources, laying off over 1,000 employees and closing three VR studios this year.
