As Microsoft's Build developer conference kicks off, users are grappling with significant issues stemming from the KB5058379 patch, affecting Windows 10 22H2 and LTSC 2021. Particularly impacted are devices with Intel vPro technology and BitLocker enabled, leading to unexpected lsass.exe terminations and potential boot loops. Microsoft cautioned that administrators must be ready with BitLocker keys while they work on an urgent fix. Amidst these challenges, the company also announced major staff layoffs, raising concerns about its capability to manage and rectify software issues efficiently.
According to Microsoft, the patch "might cause lsass.exe to terminate unexpectedly, triggering an Automatic Repair." This exposes users to potential data loss and system accessibility issues.
In addition to releasing the broken patch, Microsoft announced on May 13 that it would lay off thousands of employees. Hopefully, sufficient staff remain to deal with the problem.
