Huawei chair says the future of comms is fiber-to-the-room
Briefly

At the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai, Huawei's chairman Eric Xu highlighted China's substantial lead in fiber-to-the-room (FTTR) installations. He predicted that by 2025, China will have 75 million FTTR setups, vastly outpacing the 500,000 installations found outside the country. Xu emphasized the advantages of FTTR for businesses, improving internet speeds and connectivity, thus enabling better productivity. He also pointed to delivery riders and influencers as emerging user classes for carriers to target, as they generate significant data usage and revenue, indicating new opportunities for telecom growth in China.
“By the end of 2025 China will be home to 75 million FTTR installations, but just 500,000 exist outside the Middle Kingdom.”
“Delivery riders consume twice as much data as average users, paying for the privilege while delivering 1.6 times the average revenue per user.”
