Howard Lutnick Says Trump Tariff Exemptions Are Temporary
Briefly

In an interview on ABC's This Week, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that tariff exemptions for electronic devices, including smartphones, are only temporary and will soon face new semiconductor tariffs. He emphasized the need for these items to be produced in America for national security. The business community reacted negatively to his statements, expressing confusion and concern, with notable figures like Anthony Scaramucci and Charles Gasparino criticizing the administration's unclear approach to tariffs, leading them to question the effectiveness of Lutnick’s communication.
So what [Trump is] doing is he's saying they're exempt from the reciprocal tariffs, but they're included in the semiconductor tariffs, which are coming in probably a month or two. So these are coming soon.
Lutnick revealed that the newly-announced tariff exemptions which include a host of electronic devices including smartphones are only temporary. This is not like a permanent sort of exemption.
If you talk to CEO and investors as I do, they will tell you this is a sad, scary and at times, silly spectacle.
