Cloudflare, which provides network and security services and handles about one-fifth of global internet traffic, experienced a global outage on 18 November. The outage disrupted many high-profile services including Facebook, X/Twitter, ChatGPT, Zoom, Spotify, Canva, and gay dating apps Grindr and Sniffies. Grindr users reported failures at about 1pm UK (8am Central) across Android, iOS and web, affecting chat, The Grid, taps and albums; Grindr restored normal service after roughly three hours. Sniffies users reported problems at the same time, and Downdetector also reported issues. Cloudflare CTO Dane Knecht apologised, stated the outage was not a cyberattack, and attributed the incident to a latent bug while promising a detailed breakdown.
