Google imposes further restrictions on remote work
"Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Google's COVID-era "work from anywhere" policy has become more restrictive as the tech firm's leaders have adjusted how it designates weeks away from work. Google already has limited workers to no more than four weeks of remote work away from their respective workplaces, Newly revised workplace regulations will count as little as an individual day of work as a full week of remote work instead up every five days counting as a week away, according to CNBC."
"Google employees can work remotely for between one of five days during the same week and have it count as a week of remote work. Workers who spend between one and four days away during a single week will lose an entire week of remote work per calendar year instead of having every five days count as a single workweek. The remote work also must be done from a significant distance instead of at home or another nearby location, The Tech Buzz reported."
Google narrowed its COVID-era work-from-anywhere policy by changing how remote weeks are designated. The company limits employees to no more than four remote weeks per year. New rules count even a single remote day during a workweek as a full remote week, and employees who spend one to four remote days in a week will forfeit an entire remote week from their annual allotment rather than accumulating days. Remote work must be performed from a significant distance, not from home or a nearby location. The policy takes effect in the summer and violations can lead to termination. Google employs over 180,000 people.
