A recent outage linked to Google Cloud resulted in widespread service disruptions affecting websites and platforms that rely on its infrastructure, including Cloudflare, AWS, and others. Although Cloudflare clarified that the outage stemmed from Google Cloud and not their service, many users experienced interruptions. Google acknowledged the issues, hinting at a forthcoming analysis for resolution. Historically, Google has addressed outages thoroughly, as demonstrated during a significant incident in January 2022 that arose from maintenance errors, casting doubt on the dependency of major services on single cloud providers.
The outage shut down Cloudflare, which also caused our own website to go offline.
Cloudflare emphasizes that this is not a Cloudflare outage, which can happen from time to time. Instead, the CDN provider reports that this is a "Google Cloud outage."
Google has a good reputation in this area. A prolonged outage in January 2022 was accompanied by a detailed explanation, which may be similar to what we will hear from Google later.
The exact cause remains to be seen, but Google has a good reputation in this area.
