Arista acquires VMware's VeloCloud SD-WAN outfit
Briefly

Broadcom has sold its software-defined WAN business, VeloCloud, to Arista. VeloCloud was acquired by VMware in 2017 due to the demand for less expensive WAN solutions. The need for SD-WAN arose as users sought alternatives to costly dedicated MPLS circuits. Traffic patterns have evolved, necessitating connections to diverse data sources such as mobile devices and cloud services. Arista's CEO believes the acquisition of VeloCloud will equip the company to address the complexities of today's WANs as AI plays a greater role.
VeloCloud's secure, AI-optimized cloud WAN portfolio will provide seamless, application-aware solutions to connect customer sites of any type, complementing Arista's leading data center and campus wired/wireless portfolio.
These days, WANs likely connect to many sources of data— a laptop or smartphone, a house, an airplane, or any other location on the move, in addition to a central company data center.
