The Stargate project, backed by SoftBank, aims to establish a global network of AI datacenters with an investment of $500 billion. Currently facing delays due to difficulties in site selection, CFO Yoshimitsu Goto remains optimistic about the project's long-term success. He emphasizes the importance of careful planning and consensus among stakeholders. Goto expects the project to accelerate once a physical design is agreed upon, and predicts a five-year timeline to meet the spending target. Additionally, SoftBank's subsidiary, Arm, has reported significant revenue growth.
CFO Yoshimitsu Goto stated, "There are a lot of options, and it's been taking time to select a good site. To build consensus, we need to have a lot of discussions and also technical issues and construction issues."
Goto expressed his belief that with a successful first model, the project will eventually accelerate. He stated, "We want to deliberately spend time to build the first model successfully."
He projected, "I expect Stargate will meet its target of spending around $500 billion on datacenter builds within five years."
Goto noted the significant growth of enterprises using Arm-based chips, highlighting, "The number of enterprises using Arm-based chips for cloud processing has grown more than 14x since 2021."
