Women's urinals to be at more UK events after 1m funding boost
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"The capital injection will facilitate the production of the company's next-generation urinals, designed to be flatpacked for efficient global export. The new units boast several patent-pending advancements and a stackable form factor, allowing nearly three times as many to be transported on lorries compared to traditional portable toilets. That not only reduces road congestion but also significantly lowers events' carbon footprints."
A British startup, Peequal, secured nearly £1 million in investment to expand women's urinals across Europe, the US, and Australia. The funding responds to surging demand from event organisers and will support production of next-generation, flatpack units for efficient global export. The new units include several patent-pending advancements and a stackable form factor that allows nearly three times as many to be transported on lorries versus traditional portable toilets. That reduces road congestion and lowers events' carbon footprints. Peequal's urinals are reportedly 2.7 times faster to use than conventional portable facilities and have been deployed at 25 events this year, including Glastonbury and the London Marathon. Co-founders Amber Probyn, 27, and Hazel McShane, 29, estimate the units have seen over a million uses.
