Three best friends built an AI startup - and have a pact to drink one beer if it all collapses
""The day the company collapses is the day we drink that beer," Ondracek said."
""From that point forward, we started becoming really close," Ondracek said."
Ali Dastjerdi and Nathan Ondracek became freshman roommates at Harvard in 2015 and later met Samuel Ilkka at AWS. The three lived and worked together during the pandemic, strengthening their friendship. In 2022 they left their jobs to found Raylu, an AI startup that builds agents to automate sourcing for private-market investors. Raylu raised $8 million in Series A on Monday, bringing total funding to $12 million, with HighlandX leading the round after using the product. The team has 11 people and plans to expand to 20 by January. The founders keep a single unopened beer in the office refrigerator reserved for the company’s collapse to protect their friendship.
