"We were in the dark a lot. And as a kid, my self-esteem was low,"
"All my friends were like, 'You're crazy. That is a stagnated field. It's a white, male-dominated, older-men field. Why are you doing this?' And for me, it was personal, because I knew what it felt like being a kid,"

SaLisa Berrien earned a mechanical engineering degree and an MBA, then worked 25 years at major utilities and clean energy startups before founding COI Energy. She worked in customer operations, smart grids, and clean energy programs and used big data to optimize energy efficiency. She routinely advised companies on improving building performance and eliminating production bottlenecks. She observed that commercial customers reserve and pay for far more capacity than they use because monthly capacity is set by peak needs. Her childhood experience with unpaid electric bills motivated a mission to make electricity more affordable and available.
