Windows 11's 2025 update is now rolling out
"Today Microsoft has announced that the 2025 update to Windows 11 has started to roll out. Commonly known as version 25H2 (because it's meant to arrive in the second half of the year), it's the annual feature update to Microsoft's latest OS (the company used to issue two updates per year but has switched to only one a few years back). The update will be delivered using "servicing technology", Microsoft says, which is the same one used for the monthly updates."
"Availability today begins via a "controlled feature rollout" for devices that are running Windows 11 version 24H2, but initially only for those who turned on the "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" toggle. Microsoft is very careful with the rollout because there have been many problems in the past. The company says that if it detects that your device may have an issue like app or driver incompatibility, it will put a safeguard hold in place and won't offer the update to you until that issue is resolved."
Microsoft has begun rolling out the Windows 11 2025 update, labeled version 25H2, as the annual feature update. Deployment uses the same servicing technology applied to monthly updates and starts as a controlled feature rollout for devices running Windows 11 version 24H2. Initial availability is limited to devices with the "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" toggle enabled. The rollout includes safeguards that will block the update on devices with detected app or driver incompatibilities. Broader availability will expand over the next few months. The update includes new features, security improvements, and additional control options.
