Windows 11 now uses JScript9Legacy engine for improved security
Briefly

Microsoft replaced the default scripting engine JScript with JScript9Legacy in Windows 11 version 24H2 to enhance security and performance. JScript, introduced in 1996, was prone to various vulnerabilities and considered outdated by modern standards. Although it remained the default for compatibility, Microsoft aims for better protection against web threats with JScript9Legacy. This updated engine supports legacy scripting needs while offering modern security measures. Users do not need to take action for the switch, but a rollback to JScript is available for compatibility issues.
"To provide a more secure experience, beginning with Windows 11, version 24H2, JScript9Legacy is enabled by default to handle all scripting processes and operations that previously used JScript," announced Microsoft's Naveen Shankar.
The new engine is a modernized version of JScript9, which can be used outside the browser, and is designed to support legacy scripting needs with better security and compatibility.
