The lab addresses accelerating Rust adoption across industry and open source and the maturation of Rust projects into critical global software infrastructure. The lab aims to enable neutral, community-led governance and reliable institutional backing so projects remain sustainable, secure, and vendor-independent. The inaugural sponsored project is Rustls, a memory-safe, high-performance TLS library used to build secure connections in safety-critical environments. Rustls demonstrates Rust's capacity to deliver security and performance in sensitive infrastructure areas.
