The Linux Foundation assumed stewardship in 2021 with support from Alibaba, ARM, ByteDance, and Microsoft; later supporters include AMD, Ampere, Cyberus Technology, and Tencent Cloud. Cloud Hypervisor runs on KVM and the Microsoft Hypervisor and is mainly used by public clouds. Version 48 introduced a policy declining contributions generated or derived from Large Language Models to avoid license ambiguity, reduce review and maintenance workload, and mitigate potential legal and provenance risks associated with AI-assisted code.
