Linux Mint 22.2 delivers fresh features and polish for everyday Linux users - and longtime fans
"Clement "Clem" Lefebvre and the rest of the Linux Mint team have done it again. With the release of , also known as Zara, users get a distribution that's easy to use and packed with helpful improvements to make the daily desktop experience better than ever. As a long-time Linux Mint fan, I'm delighted with this latest release. As in the last version, Linux Mint 22.1, codenamed Xia, the release is based on the Ubuntu 24.04 Long Term Support (LTS) Linux distro."
"While there have been some reports that Mint 22.2 now uses the Linux kernel 6.14 by default, that's not quite true. If you upgrade your system, like I did, the standard Mint Linux kernel remains the LTS Linux kernel 6.8, specifically 6.8.0-79. That's because 6.14 is only supported until February 2026, while 6.8 is supported until April 2029. However, if you install the new Mint for the first time, you will get the 6.14 kernel."
Linux Mint 22.2, codenamed Zara, is an easy-to-use desktop distribution that delivers modest improvements for daily use. The release is based on Ubuntu 24.04 Long Term Support (LTS) and provides the usual desktop choices, including the default interface. Fresh installs ship with Linux kernel 6.14 to support newer hardware and improve Windows game performance via an improved NTSYNC driver. Upgraded systems retain the LTS kernel 6.8 (6.8.0-79), supported until April 2029, while kernel 6.14 is supported until February 2026. Kernel switching is available through the Linux Kernels tool and Grub advanced options.
