Experience: I am the Excel world champion
"Growing up in Waterford, south-east Ireland, I was always good at maths. I first used Excel at university in Cork while studying maths and physics. We used a software programme called Mathematica but it was expensive, so at home I used Excel as a workaround to do the same tasks, using it to generate, say, a list of prime or Fibonacci numbers."
"Then some new kids on the block launched the Financial Modelling World Cup in 2020, and I won that twice. They decided to make it more visual and fun, including hosting head-to-head battles with a real-time leaderboard on a giant screen. They started putting these on YouTube and some videos got hundreds of thousands of views. Experience: I'm Britain's best gravedigger It soon rebranded as the Microsoft Excel world championship."
Grew up in Waterford, south-east Ireland, with strong mathematical ability. Excel was first used at university in Cork during maths and physics studies as a cost-effective alternative to Mathematica, producing sequences like prime and Fibonacci numbers. Work at a London consultancy led to broader, conventional Excel use and frequent troubleshooting of practical problems such as logistics. A subsequent move to New York introduced participation in ModelOff in 2013, resulting in a win before its 2019 end. The Financial Modelling World Cup launched in 2020 with visual, head-to-head formats and YouTube exposure, later becoming the Microsoft Excel world championship broadcast and staged in Las Vegas with hundreds of competitors and diverse athletic participants.
