Devuan 6 'Excalibur' Linux lands
"This is essentially the same OS as Debian 13, but with Agent P's sprawling "system and service manager" surgically removed, along with any packages that are so dependent upon it that they can't be separated. Like Trixie, it uses kernel 6.12 - currently the latest LTS kernel - and the PipeWire audio server. As with Debian since version 12 "Bookworm", the installation media contains proprietary firmware files, mainly for Wi-Fi controllers."
"Perhaps as a consequence, although there are lots of supplementary GNOME tools in Devuan's repositories, the GNOME desktop isn't included. Debian 13 includes GNOME 48, which was released in March, a few months before the GNOME project announced stronger dependencies on systemd. We will venture a prediction: GNOME probably will not be returning in Devuan 7, which is codenamed Freia and will follow Debian 14 sometime in 2027."
Devuan 6 Excalibur is based on Debian 13 Trixie and removes systemd along with packages that cannot be separated from it. The release uses Linux kernel 6.12 (the current LTS) and ships the PipeWire audio server. Installation media include proprietary firmware files, mainly for Wi‑Fi controllers, which can be removed after installation. The GNOME desktop is not included despite supplementary GNOME tools in repositories, and GNOME 48's stronger systemd dependencies make GNOME unlikely to return in the next Devuan release. Devuan 6 drops x86-32 support and supports amd64 plus several little-endian ARM and PowerPC ports.
