
A Gen Z online movement called Cockroach Janata Party has rapidly gained followers on Instagram and X, centered on a cockroach mascot. The movement began after the Chief Justice of India criticized some youth during remarks about fake degrees, using “parasites” and “cockroaches” as comparisons. Within a day, the party’s founder asked what would happen if all cockroaches came together, prompting users to post memes identifying themselves as cockroaches. Opposition figures and former civil servants expressed interest in joining online. The movement has unveiled a cockroach election symbol and plans a first virtual convention for hundreds of thousands of registered members, while emphasizing peaceful and democratic dissent.
