Summons tossed for ex-'The Bear' writer handcuffed in Metro-North train seating dispute
"You're going to arrest the one Black dude on the train, because this white woman said she didn't like the way I was sitting on the train?"
"to make an example of me"
"I was harassed and detained for sitting while Black,"
"Even though this absurd case was dismissed today, I will continue to defend the civil rights of every New Yorker."
Alex O'Keefe, a former TV writer, was removed in handcuffs from a Metro-North commuter train after a seating dispute in which a conductor said he had spread his legs across an adjacent seat. Officers say he refused directions to exit the train, leading to his being handcuffed, questioned on a platform, and issued a summons for disorderly conduct. Video shows O'Keefe questioning officers and accusing them of targeting him because he is Black. An administrative judge dismissed the summons, and O'Keefe characterized the incident as harassment and pledged to defend civil rights.
