Sickened and Outraged': Prosecutors Blast Portland Freedom Fund for Bailing Out Man Who Kills Partner Just Days Later
"Prosecutors are blasting the PFF over their decision to step in on the case, noting Adan's long history of escalating violence against Abraham. Adan was born in Somalia and first came to the United States as a refugee. He was also convicted of felony strangulation, domestic violence, and more. The escalating series of attacks by Adan began in 2022, according to prosecutors."
"In July, police were called back to the apartment and Abraham said Adan broke her phone and strangled her. Adan's threats included I'm going to put you to sleep and I should kill you, according to authorities. Adan was arrested and at an arraignment, Abraham pleaded for help. Statistics show that strangulation cases lead to homicide, she told the court through a statement. I don't want to be a victim."
Portland Freedom Fund posted $2,000, representing 10% of a $20,000 bail, to secure release of Mohamed Adan. Adan had a documented history of escalating violence against his former partner, Racheal Abraham, including felony strangulation, domestic violence convictions, threats to kill, and violations of court-ordered GPS monitoring and parole. Abraham obtained a restraining order and reported repeated assaults in 2022. Abraham was found dead in her Portland apartment five days after Adan's release; three children lived in the home. Adan pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received life with parole possible after 25 years. Prosecutors sharply criticized the decision to post bail.
