Scantily dressed Lycra nuns' kept church cult leader's home spotless, trial hears
Briefly

Christopher Brain, formerly a celebrated priest leading the Nine O-Clock Service, is accused of sexually abusing many women. The court heard that he surrounded himself with women who assisted him, referred to as the Lycra Lovelies, performing various sexual favours. Prosecutor Tim Clark stated that the Church of England initially saw Brain as a success but later revealed the Nine O’Clock Service had become a controlled cult. Members were isolated from their families and became dependent on Brain, surrendering their autonomy to him and the organization.
Christopher Brain, who led the progressive Nine O-Clock Service (NOS) in Sheffield, is accused of dominating and sexually assaulting numerous women from his congregation.
The women, part of Brain's homebase team, were referred to as the Lycra Lovelies, performed sexual favours as part of a rota to assist Brain.
NOS became a controlled group where members were isolated, dependent on Brain, and encouraged to surrender their personal lives to the organisation.
Tim Clark KC highlighted how Brain's leadership allowed him to abuse his position as a priest to exploit vulnerable women within the community.
