A new video interview exhibit titled "Eelunaapéewi Ehaptoonáakanal: Voices of Lunáapeew/Lenape" has been launched by the Prospect Park Alliance and Éenda-Lŭnaapeewáhkiing Collective. It is located at the Lefferts Historic House from July 12 to Nov. 30. The series includes interviews with Lenape nation members, who discuss their longstanding relationship with the land, and recount their history marked by trauma and recovery. The exhibit aims to broaden the historical context of the Lefferts house to include the experiences of indigenous peoples and enslaved Black individuals connected to the site.
"We are a nation who has been scattered to the winds because of the greed of not just the Dutch, but also the English after that and so forth, who chased us and massacred us for our land," said George Stonefish, co-founder of the collective.
The series features interviews with members of the Lenape nation, who have lived in New York since before the arrival of European settlers, discussing their relationship with the land and the history of their people through trauma and recovery.
The exhibit is part of an effort to expand the historical context of the Lefferts house to include the stories of indigenous peoples driven from the area, as well as of enslaved Black people owned by the Lefferts family.
