Muhammad Ali once joked he should be on a stamp because 'that's the only way I'll ever get licked.' Wish granted | Fortune
"that's the only way I'll ever get licked."
"As sort of the guardian of his legacy, I'm thrilled. I'm excited. I'm ecstatic,"
"Because people, every time they look at that stamp, they will remember him. And he will be in the forefront of their consciousness. And, for me, that's a thrill."
Muhammad Ali, a three-time heavyweight champion widely regarded as the most famous and influential boxer, is being honored with a U.S. commemorative Forever Stamp. The stamp uses a black-and-white 1974 Associated Press photo of Ali in his famous boxing pose. A first-day-of-issue ceremony is planned in Louisville, Kentucky, the boxer’s birthplace and home to the Muhammad Ali Center. Lonnie Ali described the stamp as a means to keep his legacy and mission of spreading compassion in the public consciousness. Ali died in 2016 at 74 after decades living with Parkinson’s disease and received multiple honors during his life.
