Kelso Conservation Area hosted the annual Community Healing Cookout and Black Campout, organized by Halton Black Voices, inviting over 100 families to celebrate Black culture. This grassroots initiative began during the pandemic, aimed at creating safe spaces for Black individuals, evolving into a popular summer event. Attendees enjoyed Caribbean and African cuisines, recreational activities, and community bonding despite rainy weather. Participants expressed joy in connecting with others in a predominantly Black environment, highlighting the festival's significance in fostering connections and shared experiences among families.
