Zanetti: Chivu always had ability to become a coach - Soccer News
"I'm very happy and very pleased because I think Cristian deserves this opportunity. Even when we were team-mates, Cristian was a very intelligent player."
"I see a very balanced season, especially in Italian football, because there are four or five teams separated by just one point."
"The important thing is that Inter always competes. And I think that applies whether Inter is playing in the Champions League or in Serie A. We always prove to be competitive, and that certainly brings you much closer to success."
Cristian Chivu became Inter head coach after Simone Inzaghi's exit ahead of the Club World Cup. The 45-year-old previously coached Inter's youth teams and had a brief senior stint at Parma. Chivu has won 12 of 16 Serie A matches this season, with Inter scoring 35 goals and conceding 14, averaging 2.25 points per game. Inter lead Serie A by one point after 16 games and sit sixth in their Champions League group with two matches remaining. Javier Zanetti praised Chivu’s intelligence and coaching ability and emphasized that Inter must remain competitive across all competitions.
