
"People from a number of countries who have qualified for the 2026 Fifa World Cup have been issued travel bans by the United States. The bans, imposed by US President Donald Trump, means their fans will not be able to travel to America this summer. The tournament is being jointly hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada. The White House said the restrictions are intended to "protect the security of the United States" and came into force on 1 January."
"A number of exceptions apply. The ban will not affect lawful permanent residents, many existing visa holders, diplomats, or athletes travelling for major sporting events - so teams will be able to play at the tournament. The countries that have had a full ban imposed include Haiti, Iran and Congo. Some countries have partial restrictions, including the Ivory Coast.
