"I'm very much looking forward to working with the team and I am convinced that we will succeed in working together effectively and achieving the club's goals,"
"After the very positive discussions with the management, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to join Werder."
"We had very good talks with Daniel. His idea of football, his manner, and his approach to our current sporting situation were decisive factors in the decision. We are convinced that we turn things around with him."
Daniel Thioune has been appointed Werder Bremen coach, replacing Horst Steffen after a 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach. That result extended Werder's winless run to ten games and left the club one point above Mainz in the Bundesliga relegation playoff place. Thioune was out of work since being sacked by Fortuna Düsseldorf in October and previously managed Osnabrück and Hamburg. He experienced play-off defeat with Fortuna in 2024 when they lost on penalties to Bochum. Thioune's role at Werder is his first top-flight job. Werder face tough fixtures immediately, with a visit to Freiburg and a home game against Bayern Munich.
