Sam Coffey, 27, moved from Portland Thorns to Manchester City in January to pursue new challenges and personal growth. Manchester City paid a club-record £600,000 for the signing. Coffey captained the Thorns and was a midfield regular for the United States, helping win the 2022 NWSL championship, the 2024 Concacaf Gold Cup, and Olympic gold at Paris 2024. Coffey grew up in Sleepy Hollow, attended Pennsylvania State University and earned a journalism degree. Her family includes a best-selling author father and a sportswriter sister. She began her professional career in Oregon in 2022 and is settling into City.
