Since Boxing Day, Walsall won only two matches in 14 games, severely damaging their promotion hopes. Sadler, a former club defender, had managed Walsall for nearly three years after receiving a permanent appointment in May 2023. Darren Byfield assumed interim control with support from Terry Connor and the existing backroom staff.
