Winners are announced each Friday online and in the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections. Nominations are accepted via highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com until 11 a.m. Monday, and submitted MaxPreps stats are reviewed. Recent nominees include Isaiah Barraza, Christian Cermenelli-Johnson, DeJuan Compton Jr., Brandon Hahn, and Brayde Kuykendall.
