Christian Cermenelli-Johnson, Bishop O'Dowd football: The junior tossed two touchdown passes in O'Dowd's 37-0 win over Christian-San Diego in the CIF Division 5-AA state championship. DeJuan Compton Jr., El Cerrito football: The sophomore threw four touchdown passes and completed 19 of 27 passes for 265 yards to lead El Cerrito to the CIF Division 4-A state championship."
Voting for Athlete of the Week runs weekly with polls closing at 5 p.m. Wednesday and multiple votes allowed from readers without using bots or artificial methods. Votes by email and votes submitted after the deadline are not counted. Suspicious activity can lead to candidate disqualification and permanent suspension of the poll. Winners are announced each Friday online and in the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections. Nominations are accepted via highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com until 11 a.m. each Monday, and submitted statistics from coaches or team statisticians are reviewed. This week covers performances from Dec. 8-13 and lists several nominees with their game achievements.
