Vancouver Whitecaps v Real Salt Lake: Sorensen happy to juggle multiple competitions - Soccer News
"I think it's a good thing that we get going from the start and we have some more games. We have been preparing well for this, and it was the same last year. Of course, your schedule also depends on how you do in those games, but in general, I should not complain. We want to be in these competitions, and when you are, you have a stacked program with a lot of matches. We will go forward with this attitude."
"We're expecting just another step forward from him, into more of a leadership role. I think he realises the impact of how he can help the team both with the ball and also emotionally."
Vancouver Whitecaps begin the 2026 MLS season at home to Real Salt Lake after finishing as MLS Cup runners-up. The Whitecaps topped the Western Conference on goal difference and reached the final by eliminating San Diego FC, FC Dallas and Los Angeles FC before losing 3-1 to Inter Miami. Vancouver drew 0-0 away to Cartagines in the CONCACAF Champions Cup first leg, with the second leg next week. Coach Jesper Sorensen believes an early, congested schedule and additional matches will help the squad hit peak form. Real Salt Lake finished ninth and coach Pablo Mastroeni expects Diego Luna to assume greater leadership.
